AB-FE split - coverReady to gaze into the Anal Eye? Errr well obviously none of our other writers were and so it falls upon me to pick up such foul duties. No idea what could have put them all off grabbing this one to be honest? It could have been that album cover and it may have been some of the song titles such as Licking The Cunt Of Chaos. As you may have gathered this one is hardly going to be a disc that those who are politically correct are going to be running out and buying in their droves.

So first outfit hitting the bum notes are Anal Blasphemy [6] who are the sole work of Hammer Of Hate record label owner Molestor Kadotus from Finland. Naturally the guy gives the appearance that he is an utter depraved filth-meister and he has spewed out a slew of releases since 2002 demo ‘Cum And Crucifixion’ which have gushed over the underground like foul smelling brown water with the occasional lump clogging it up. Yes this is a review that really could write itself and be full of bad puns but let’s actually try and stop and dissect the three tracks on offer. The aforementioned one from above kicks off with a sample declaring that the one true God is that between a woman’s legs (Game Of Thrones fans take note). From there we are more tickled than slapped by lo-fi under produced rawness with a doom fuelled feel behind it as spiky guitars build into a snarling stew of bestial blackness. This could really do with a bit of oomph behind it as musically it has a quite promising feel  but bass is lacking completely in the mix and it is everything one used to moan about tinny black metal with the sound of wasps from the old cassette demo days. Whether this is due to lack of proficiency, funds or on purpose for the sake of authenticity is beyond me but it certainly does well as far as the latter point is concerned. Punky bouncy riffs and yells out to Satan perpetuate number two (or should that be number twos?)‘Sperm Of Satan, Antichrist Semen’ which ejaculates around a shrill guitar scything stew of spiky riffs and growling vocal rasps. Drums are too low in the mix to really create much of an impression but some austere backing chants give a good irreverent feel to things. I’m not going further into the lyrical output here! Last number ‘Birth-Death-Rebirth’ is pushed out slowly and has a serious feel about it as it slowly oozes wrapping guitar chords around you like a garrotte. It’s dark and feels like it has literally been shat out of hell as it moves between slow parts and sudden gallops over an unexpected almost ten minute running length. There’s quite a bit of an appeal about Anal Blasphemy and I wouldn’t totally flush them; work on the sound and I may be back.

What a huge difference an extra band member and a big boost in sound levels makes! Forbidden Eye [7.5] are a duo from Switzerland. Perhaps the Swiss piss to the Anal discharge. They are equally in awe to the dark lord but have the required thunder behind them to make him sit up and take notice. Winter (vocals) and Nocturnus Dominus (instruments) start with an eerie synth intro which turns day to night and has me shivering from the off. Then we get a trio of 4-5 minute hell storms which mercilessly batter in with a mighty feel about them. Leading the charge is ‘The Moon Of The Blood Serpent’ reminding a bit of earlier Kampfar as it charges with a feudal heathen cleave about it. The vocals are nice and sharp with an almost forked tongue about them as they burrow through your ear drums and set about attempting to eat your brain. There’s a jubilant, swaggering melody behind this too and it has me pounding boots in time. The somewhat childish shock value of the split as a whole is momentarily forgotten as there is much more depth and seriousness here than it probably deserves and as one track finishes and the next storms in it’s obvious that this lot don’t need any gimmicks, their music is quite good enough to carry things off. Sure the theme is constant on a song like ‘Monastery Of Satan’ but if there are two foul deconsecrated churches to kneel at the altar of, it’s obvious here who is going to pack them grim acolytes in. The rallying cries of ‘Satan, Lucifer’ as we gallop off to the finish line make this a sermon worthy of fire and brimstone!
