Having been bollocked by my old man for breaking his antique ‘stereogram’ with Ozzy’s ‘Bark At The Moon’ in 1984, I decided a life of metal worship was for me!
Likewise, after watching Zombie Flesheaters as a kid (early 80’s pre certification combined with an easily had over mum) and convincing myself that a zombie was more than likely in my wardrobe all night – a long and turbulent love affair with horror began. And I say turbulent as I regularly upset my horror geek mates by telling them Argento’s movies are all overrated shite. (You’d think they’d caught me fingering their mum when I tell them that).
I’m a big fan of thrash, death metal, and er….. proper 80’s poodle rock (love you Ratt) and Motorhead are the best band in the world.
Not a fan of tinny ‘recorded on a mono tape deck….. in a biscuit tin…… in the woods’ kvlt black metal.

Nattravnen – Kult Of The Raven (Transcending Obscurity Records)

When I was a young(ish) lad in the mid-eighties I used to love King Diamond. I was a big fan, not so much of the marmite vocals but of the way each album told an original horror story from beginning… Continue Reading →

Chapel Of Disease – And As We have Seen The Storm, We Have embraced The Eye (Van Records)

I’ve been a big fan of Chapel Of Disease since their 2012 debut album “Summoning Black Gods” and I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing that and their second album,  2015’s amazing  “The Mysterious Ways Of Repetitive Art” for one website… Continue Reading →

Chrome Division – One Last Ride (Nuclear Blast)

After fifteen years and five full length albums, Chrome Division are calling it a day and this, appropriately titled album is their last. Now if you’re not familiar with the band, they started life as a Motorhead inspired rock and… Continue Reading →

1914 – The Blind Leading The Blind (Redefining Darkness / Archaic Sound Records)

1914 are a death metal band from the Ukraine that have been around since 2014 and it’ll come as no surprise that a band named 1914 like to write songs about the Great War. What kind of songs? Fucking good… Continue Reading →

Deathrite – Nightmares Reign (Century Media)

YES! A decent, old school death metal album lands in my filthy box which was much needed after I appeared to upset the whole of Belgium with my review of the Moss Upon The Skull album the other day. I… Continue Reading →

Iron Lamb – Blue Haze (The Sign Records)

Back in 2015 I had the pleasure of discovering Iron Lamb and writing up their second album “Fool’s Gold”. It was a super enjoyable blast of oily biker rock that, while fun, was a bit too close to Motorhead to… Continue Reading →

Moss Upon The Skull – In Vengeful Reverence (I, Voidhanger Records)

I’d never heard of Moss Upon The Skull prior to being sent this. Cool name, cool artwork. I was salivating at the thought of some Autopsy-like, grimey death metal as I hit “play”. Would these Belgians get my head banging… Continue Reading →

Weak Aside – Forward Into Darkness (FDA Records)

Another good ‘un from FDA Records here with the third full length from Germany thrashy death machine Weak Aside. I wasn’t familiar with the lads prior to receiving this but a bit of a blast through in the car on… Continue Reading →

Siege Of Power – Warning Blast (Metal Blade)

I’d been looking forward to this!! Siege Of Power have just unleashed what is probably the most aptly titled debut album of the year with “Warning Blast”. Who is Siege Of Power? Well my young Padawan….allow me to enlighten you…. Continue Reading →

Cast The Stone – Empyrean Atrophy (Agonia Records)

I wasn’t familiar with Cast The Stone, prior to this EP flying into my slot. ”Crap name” I thought but a bit of research and a read of the promo blurb clobbered me with the knowledge that the band is… Continue Reading →

Crawl – Rituals (Transcending Obscurity Records)

Do you like pro-wrestling? I do, lots of metal fans do as it happens. Then again, some of my mates call it “pants fighting” and suggest I just like watching oiled up muscular men in lycra sit on each other…. Continue Reading →

Cemetery Urn – Barbaric Retribution (Hells Headbangers)

I always shudder a bit when I see a band referred to as “bestial” ….. it makes me think of muddy production masking shitty playing, impenetrable vocals, cover art of a nun / angel / vicar being sodomised by a… Continue Reading →
