entrapmentThis is album number three, with Dutch death metal there is always an air of quality akin to the classics, and in this case, main man Michel Jonker has laid down his master plan along with others for this slight expansion of the Entrapment arsenal. The beginnings of which can be heard on the first couple of tracks, that kind of fester slowly in pace to build the foundation for the moment the speed increases to the realms of classic old school death metal.

Particular points of interest include ‘Ruination’. This is where it begins to come into its own. The rotten stench of death matched with the tried and tested HM-2 sound, gives me joy every time I hear it. Song wise, this is where the quality shines through above and beyond what is a slightly murky start to the release. I do like a touch of d-beat in my death metal too, Entrapment mercilessly provide this for their ‘Hybrid Maelstrom’ which takes you to obvious influences, and I’m too tired of saying them to note them here! But what I hear here, works and excites.

There’s enough quality control from the band, it’s not too overdriven or overproduced, there’s a good feel to this album. I would say you’d be in a comfortable place with the rest of the crowd of OSDM, but this time around there’s a variation of pace giving it that slight edge on some of their peers in Entrapment’s favour.
