Those of you who are fans of the Brutal Death Metal, Slam, Deathcore and Beatdown sub genres are about to pig squeal in delight, as the sick and twisted minds behind Kings of Decay, Slam Crew World Wide and Brutal Sickness United have come together to create University of Brutality, a 25 track two disc compilation consisting of the most brutal, underground slams.
With 25 bands from across the globe, University of Brutality is definitely not an album for faint hearted, or semi committed slam fans, as every track is a strong example of raw, underground slam in all its formats. You’ve got the delightfully offensive band names such as Operation C**t Destroyer and C**thunt777, the medically gorey and insanely long band titles in the form of Diphenylchloroarsine and Embryectomy and of course slam just wouldn’t be slam without hysterically gory song titles. Titles like Intensive Fetal Desecration and Chainsaw Laceration of Aborted Remains are just some of the grotesquely brutal tracks on University of Brutality.
Despite focusing on quite a specific sub-genre, the creators behind University of Brutality have managed to squeeze in a fair amount of variety on the album. There’s the just plain old heavy, chugging slam in the form of Pit of Toxic Slime, one man tour de force Carnifloor and slightly more tuneful, technical numbers from both Sentenced and Visceral Decay. Basically there’s a song on this release for fans of Devourment, Epicardiectomy and everything in between.
If you’re seeking new, up and coming bands to add to your collection then University of Brutality is the album for you as it showcases only the most raw and underground slam bands. If you were expecting a slam greatest hits compilation, featuring the older, pioneering slam acts like Devourment and Internal Bleeding then University of Brutality probably isn’t what you’re looking for, as this is an album that is exclusive to the new school.
University of Brutality is an intense and heavy listen. For those who prefer old school and technical death metal, then it is possibly best avoided as you will find little traditional death metal here. However, if you prefer your music filled to the brim with blast beats, guttural growls and pig squeals and crushing, chugging riffs then this is a compilation that will provide you with 90 minutes of sheer, gory delight. Brace yourself for 25 rather brutal kicks to the face!
