LambsItalian hardcore four-piece, Lambs, while relatively new to the scene, have a playing style that will sound familiar to those fond of the likes of Hexis, Ancst and Cowards. This debut EP gives us a short, 13 minute taste of their metallic sounding blend of black metal tinged aggression, with some post-metal elements thrown in for good measure.

This small snippet of tunes promises big things for the band, with three tracks that get progressively more intense as you listen. That’s not to say that this is a blast beat ridden mess of angry music, however, it’s far from it. There are slower moving, brooding and darkly emotive passages to break up the blackened frenzies – this EP is more intelligently written than the average hardcore release.

Relentlessly nefarious, ‘Betrayed from Birth’ showcases not just a band capable of straddling the lines of both hardcore and black metal, but a band that are talented songwriters and musicians. To take two genres, that have endless blastbeats and guttural, indecipherable vocals at their roots, and blend them to make something that is both elegantly crafted and almost terrifying to listen to in places is a rare talent. Evil intent and malevolent ambition are at play on this EP and it will be interesting to see what Lambs produce given the opportunity to release a full length album. More, please; three songs simply aren’t enough.
