DeadEx“What have you made of yourself? Are you proud? Is anyone else?” bellow the vocals on ‘Worthless’. This is the fourth track of ‘Endless Misery’, sophomore album from London sludge/doom metal hatemongers Dead Existence. If you’re reading those lyrics and thinking “gosh, that’s a bit horrible, isn’t it?” then turn back now; there’s nothing here for you, as that’s just a drop in the ocean of wretchedness that this record offers up.

Dead Existence are pretty much a household name when it comes to the London metal scene and while none of their releases to date (an album, a split with Dopefight and an EP) have exactly been a teddy bear’s picnic, ‘Endless Misery’ blows their pre-existing discography to fuck by living up to its namesake and then some. If you’re looking for a sure fire way to ruin your day then look no further than this album.

Don’t get the wrong idea, however, this isn’t a Warning style sob along that will have you crying into your pie stained death metal t-shirt. Every track conjures up images of pure filth, coupled with ‘core’ elements of sludge heaviness with just enough groove packed into the guitars and bass to get your head moving, but never quite letting go of making a point of telling you that you’re worthless and will never amount to anything. Charming. However, they could be telling you they’d murdered your mum and your dog and you wouldn’t give a shit as long as it sounded this good, let’s be honest.

This is an ideal frolic through the depths of depravity for those that are in need of a punch to the ego or a mind fuck that’s bordering on torturous proportions. Not to be missed if you’re fond of the expression “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore!” Come get your gloom on.
