BursaLambWhy me?

Chances are you have no idea who Bursa Lamb are so I’m gonna just quote the opening line of the promo blah that comes with this, their debut album.…”Bursa Lamb is a killer death metal attack from Greece…

Like that? Sound good? Well here’s the next bit… “….featuring humorous lyrics based on the potential end of humanity by an intergalactic lamb named Master Lambdroid.

Now I could end the review there really couldn’t I?

I’m not averse to a bit of humour with my metal…. Really I’m not. But songs about a sheep robot from space? Come on lads.

Still, musically it ain’t band. Meat & potatoes death metal along the lines of mid-period Vader. The riffs are strong, the drums sound a bit synthetic in parts and the production isn’t great but you can hear everything crashing along in fine fashion.

Tracks like…. oh fucking hell ….’I used To Date Megatron’ with it’s very old fashioned death metal feel and chugging guitars are actually pretty enjoyable. The super speedy ‘Fat Bastard’ is fun too and album closer, ‘Jesus Shepherd’ actually sounds like a ‘proper’ death metal song.

Thing is I’m not a fan of novelty acts. I mean sure, Lawnmower Deth kept it up for years and are quite fun. Evil Scarecrow are ….well you either like them or you don’t but there’s a fair bit of scope for those bands to explore different subject matter beyond what their name suggests. But Bursa Lamb are a bit tied to bleating on (hahaha I’m soooo funny) about fucking space sheep.

Still… all in, not a painful experience and they do have a song called ‘Spacegoat Motherfucker’
