ZeitYou don’t need much time for this two-track blast from Zeit. Five minutes will do it. Zeit are from Italy and arose from the ashes of As The Sun who released a very good and lively album called “Event Horizon” in 2012.

There’s no time to waste, so it’s straight into a high energy ball of metalcore, with a rhythmic tendency to mathcore. Intensity booms out at all levels. The instrumental output flails in all directions but it’s well controlled and admirably endowed with ear-ringing technicality. “Bios” breaks down at the end with a reflective passage. I thought it was going to take us into new worlds of adventure but it stopped. Hopefully Zeit will develop this side of things on their new album, for which this is a prequel.

“Zoe” takes a slightly different angle from “Bios”. Tension abounds and mixes with the energy. It’s like there’s not much that anyone can do about it but enjoy the carnage. The vocalist leads the way with his desperate roars.

There’s not much to go on here but with a bit of variation, Zeit could be on to something really exciting. This single (I can’t call it an ep) reminds of those great metal nights out in the company of Black Polaris, Colours to Shame and many other talented metalcore bands with something to say.
