TriumphantAfter seven-odd years under an array of different titles, Triumphant appear to have finally settled into their new form to release a debut that fits their new name. Frantic Tormentor, Manic Disease and Nekromantik are a thing of the past, with the current five-piece embedding all their favourite features of metal into a record that is bound the appeal to those with a need for speed. Despite often being herded into the black thrash pen, this is rather misleading and if you’re expecting some ball-out raw mayhem, you’ll be surprised. For the most part, this is mainly thanks to their vocalist Bekim Leatherdemon, whose leather trousers are clearly tight enough to castrate with pipes so high and mighty; you’ll feel like you’re back in the eighties. For the audience with more sensitive hearing and an aggressive requirement, his blackened growls are as desired and this helps ‘Herald The Unsung’ from becoming a classic cheese fest.

The vibe throughout the album is indeed triumphant from the Austrians and whilst the attitude of the old school is there, the production is crisp enough to avoid any copycat heckles, whilst the pace is only ever hindered by a guitar solo worthy of being there. There is no denying that this is a well-crafted album, particularly as a debut, however the NWOBM influences may halt self-proclaimed blackened thrash fans in their tracks. Triumphant may address multiple styles and languages but one thing we can all translate is their love for the fast and ferocious in heavy metal.
